UK business grants 2026
Real UK business grants exist, but genuine non-repayable cash is a small, competitive part of business support: most grants are specific to a nation, sector and stage, open only in rounds, and often match-funded. Use the free finder below to see what might fit, then check each scheme’s official page for live status. If a grant is not an option, or you cannot wait for a round, faster finance is covered too. For UK limited companies, LLPs and partnerships with four or more partners.

Can’t find a grant you qualify for, or can’t wait for a competitive round?
Grants are scarce and slow. Commercial finance can be arranged in days: invoice finance, a business loan or asset finance.

How UK business grants really work
Being realistic about grants saves a lot of wasted time:
- Free money is scarce and competitive. You can meet every criterion and still not be funded.
- They are region and sector specific. Devolved nations and regions run their own schemes, so where you trade is the single biggest filter.
- They open in rounds. A scheme is live for a few weeks, then closed for months. Several flagship funds are currently paused or between rounds.
- Many are match-funded. You often have to put in part of the cost yourself.
Grant, loan, equity or tax relief?
Searchers conflate four different things. A grant is non-repayable cash. A loan (Start Up Loans, Innovation Loans) must be repaid. Equity schemes like SEIS and EIS help you raise money by giving investors tax relief for shares. Tax relief such as R&D credits returns money through the tax system, not as an upfront cheque. The finder above labels each scheme so you know which is which before you apply. See grants vs business loans for how to choose, and how to get a business grant for the application steps.
Frequently asked questions
Are there real grants for UK businesses in 2026?
Yes, but genuine non-repayable cash grants are a small slice of business support and most are competitive, region and sector specific, and open only in rounds. Many searches end without a fit because nothing matches the applicant’s nation, stage or sector, or the round is closed. The government’s Find a grant service lists what is genuinely open at any time.
What is the difference between a grant, a loan and tax relief?
Only a grant is non-repayable. The Grant, loan, equity or tax relief section above sets out how the four differ; check the label on any scheme before you apply.
Why do most business grant applications fail?
Mostly because grants are scarce and competitive, for the reasons listed above: you can meet every criterion and still not be funded. That is a normal outcome, not a reflection on the business.
What if I can't get a grant or can't wait for one?
That is the common position, and it's exactly where commercial finance fits. Invoice finance, a business loan or asset finance can be arranged in days rather than the weeks or months a competitive grant round takes. If you send an enquiry through FundBiz, we pass your details to a business finance broker, who will contact you about your options.
Grant details are compiled from official sources as at July 2026 and change frequently; always confirm live status, amounts and eligibility on the scheme’s official page (linked).
